'tis the season for taco seasonin'

I can't tell you how many times I have had a craving for tacos but didn't have that tiny little packet of taco seasoning on hand and didn't want to spend the time and money to go the store or a Mexican restaurant to satisfy my craving...so I went without tacos.  Well, that was dumb.  Never again will I deprive myself of such tasty goodness because I don't have a store bought packet of seasoning.  Now I will make my own! :)  It's quick, easy, cost effective - and most importantly - delicious and all natural!

Homemade Taco Seasoning
 Ingredients:
4 tbsp. chili powder
3 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. paprika
2 tbsp. ground cumin
1 tbsp. plus 2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, and mix well to blend.  Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
To prepare taco meat, use 2 heaping tablespoons in place of a package of taco seasoning.  Cook approximately 1 lb. of beef or chicken, add 3/4 - 1 cup of water with the seasoning, and simmer until the liquid is almost completely gone.

It tastes great! We both liked it more than regular taco seasoning and it has a little more spice to it! :) And yes - that is one of the jars you used at my bridal shower...I love it! :)

Okay, Josie... I have something for you to try. I take chicken thighs (boneless and skinless) and put them in my crock pot with loads of cumin, generous amounts of garlic powder, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and a bit of chili powder. Cook it all day, then at night stir it so it shreds up and use it as taco meat. We use this and then decorate our tacos with fresh-made salsa, cold corn, lettuce, tomato, onion, sour cream and homemade guac. Can't beat it! - Jodi
